For solo builders
A possible application for this research area. Paper-specific feasibility still needs a full-paper review.
Your self-hosted model spends too long generating answers token by token.

Compare against
The same target with speculation off, then your existing drafter if you have one.
- Locate the paper's implementation and check its license, model support, data needs, and hardware requirements. Stop here if you cannot obtain the required artifacts.
- Save a small set of representative product tasks and expected outcomes. Keep evaluation tasks out of any training or tuning, and choose quality and cost limits before running.
- Run the baseline and the proposed change on identical inputs. Keep other settings fixed and repeat paired runs to expose variation.
- Save per-task outputs, failures, timings, and all usage costs. Review regressions before expanding the test.
What to measure
Accepted draft length, tokens per second, tail latency, output quality, and total GPU cost.
When to keep it
Keep the change only if it meets your preselected quality and latency limits and improves the metric you care about after setup and operating costs. Otherwise retain the baseline. This is an exploration plan, not a validated recommendation.

- Frozen short-context drafters for long-context speculative decoding
- published
- 2026-10-14
It is a weight-free, vLLM-side configuration that preserves existing speculative decoding speedups at long context, fitting constrained single-GPU or API-based production stacks.
About the technical core
Equations have not been fetched yet.
When reading the methods, identify the rule, algorithm, or evaluation protocol that produces the claimed change. An equation is useful here only if it explains that mechanism.

Read the brief interpretation
Replaces training or fine-tuning a long-context drafter (or shipping a multi-token head) by reusing released short-context drafters with two inference-time mechanisms: bounding the drafter's attention cache and re-basing rotary indices into the trained range, implemented as one vLLM-side configuration. No weights are modified, the single tunable saturates early, and drafter compute cost becomes constant rather than growing with context. Adoption fails if the speculative cost per emitted token exceeds matched target-only cost, if either mechanism is removed, or when no compatible released drafter exists for the target model.
This is a Paperraft inference. It is not pinned to a verified PDF passage.
Inspect the source - claim 02Paperraft inference
A frozen short-context drafter retains its short-context speculative speedup out to two million tokens across three target-drafter pairs and five corpora, costing at most 0.16x of the short-length speedup; the claim is flatness of speedup over context length, not a new multiple.
This is a Paperraft inference. It is not pinned to a verified PDF passage.
